Emergencies can happen anywhere. Together, we can respond.
This football season, people around the world will come together to support their teams and join in a joyful celebration of the sport we all love.
In that same spirit of teamwork, we can also come together as good neighbours, standing alongside families and communities affected by conflict and disasters with compassion, hope and urgent support. You'll be helping people like those affected by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela, by providing water, food and hygiene kits.
By joining CAFOD’s Emergency Response Team, you can help make sure our neighbours around the world are never alone in times of crisis.
In times of crisis, an immediate response can make such a difference to people affected. That’s why we are reaching out to ask you to join our Emergency Response Team. By setting up a regular gift, it will help us to respond quickly to support families. And the work won't stop once the immediate danger has passed. Together, we can help people as they rebuild their lives.

CAFOD local partner: Caritas Lebanon
Despite the ceasefire in Lebanon, over a million people have been forced from their homes. People need a roof over their heads, food and water, mental health support, and the list goes on. Our local partners and small grassroot groups have done an incredible job at providing support to the most in need. But as the crisis continues, more funding is essential to keep helping those affected.
CAFOD’s local partner, Caritas Lebanon, has delivered nearly 98,000 services to more than 114,000 people. This includes vital food, shelter, clothing, mattresses, hygiene kits, healthcare, and mental health support for families affected by displacement.
Support from Emergency Response Team members is also helping local partners like Tres Marias, a small community kitchen and safe space founded during the pandemic in 2020. Tres Marias welcomes people of all nationalities, especially migrant workers who are often treated unfairly and struggle to access support and protection. Today, they provide around 300 meals for displaced people from migrant communities, offering comfort, care, and a sense of community during difficult times.
As part of the Emergency Response Team, you can be a good neighbour to families facing crisis, helping CAFOD and our local partners continue providing meals, safe spaces, and vital support to communities in Lebanon.

Sudan Camp
As conflict continues to affect communities across Sudan, more families urgently need clean water, healthcare and food.
The destruction is visible everywhere. At CAFOD’s local partner, Caritas Sudan’s office, walls are scarred with bullet holes and parts of the building have been badly damaged by bombs and artillery fire. Yet even amid the devastation, local teams continue their work, standing alongside communities who have lost so much.
One of those affected is Eklas, a teacher who was forced to flee Khartoum because of the conflict. For the past two years, she has been living in a camp, facing the daily challenges and limited resources. Through Caritas Sudan, Eklas received supplies for washing and staying clean while living in the camp to help meet her basic personal and household needs while living in the camp.
With support from CAFOD and local partners, vulnerable families in Goz Alsalam camp have also received cash assistance and transport support to help them return home safely with food, water and other essentials for the journey.
But for many families, the challenges do not end when they arrive home. After months of displacement and uncertainty, many are returning with very little and need continued support as they begin to rebuild their lives. Local leaders have highlighted the urgent need for ongoing help with essentials such as food, clean water, healthcare, protection, and education for children during the first months of resettlement.
CAFOD’s local partner Caritas Sudan shared this message of thanks to supporters:
“I really want to thank CAFOD very much for their support before the conflict and still ongoing ‘til now. We serve a lot of people. We work and integrate with IDPs (Internally Displaced People), refugees, a lot of people are integrated, different sectors, we serve a lot of people, really, thanks to you. So, we need this support and collaboration still ongoing to the future and sustain many of the aid. Thank you.” – Caritas Sudan
By joining the Emergency Response Team with a monthly gift, you can help CAFOD and local partners respond quickly when emergencies strike and remain alongside our neighbours around the world as they recover and rebuild for the long term.
Those who live through disasters are ordinary people - mothers, fathers, doctors, teachers - who were just going about their lives when disaster struck. Your help can get them back on track.
In those first few hours and days your monthly gifts will bring food, water, medicine and shelter to hardworking people who have lost everything through no fault of their own.
Working with local experts, and with your support, we support communities long-term with the resources they tell us they need to rebuild their lives.
Regular monthly donations and single gifts are both vital in our work to end poverty. All donations we receive mean we can reach work with local experts and communities to respond to the emergency. They also mean we have essential funds ready for emergencies when they happen.
Monthly giving is a significant and important part of our funding, with over £6 million donated regularly each year. It makes up nearly a quarter of the donations we receive from the Catholic community, which means it is one of our largest sources of funding.
Large-scale emergencies can happen at any time. Disasters such as storms, earthquakes, tsunamis and cyclones can devastate huge areas within hours. Monthly gifts allow us to always have money available to help as soon as a disaster strikes. As well as responding quickly, knowing how much money we will receive allows us to plan just how much we can support at the time of crisis. Without this money we simply wouldn’t be able to help to the extent we do.
As well as larger emergencies, we are responding throughout the year to emergency situations which never make the headlines. Be it smaller scale flooding, drought or political unrest endangering the lives of civilians. With your monthly gifts we can ensure we have enough money to reach those whose voices aren’t always heard.
Emergency situations see people facing the most extreme challenges. They can lose their homes, their loved ones, their livelihoods, their source of food, clean water, access to health care. By setting up a Direct Debit to become part of our ‘Emergency Response Team’ to support our work monthly you are reaching those in urgent need.
We understand that people’s situations can change. If you need to change your bank details, change the amount you are giving, or pause or cancel your Direct Debit, there are two ways:
1. Monthly gifts that were set up on our website in October 2022 or later, can be managed by visiting donors.cafod.org.uk.
2. If you set up your donation another way or before October 2022, and you need to manage your Direct Debit, please call our Supporter Care team on 0303 303 3030. They’re available Monday to Friday, from 9.30am to 5.30pm. You can also email them at supportercare@cafod.org.uk (never send your card details via email).
